PCOS is a hormonal disorder and is often associated with high levels of testosterone production, resistance to insulin, irregular ovulation and cysts. If you are one of the millions of women suffering from PCOS, you may find that getting pregnant is more difficult than it is for some. However, there are some things that you can try that will help you to get pregnant. Here are a few tips to help you along the way.

1. See your doctor

The first, most important tip is to fully understand if the issues that you are facing are indeed related to PCOS. It is important that you see your doctor to know for sure, but some of the most common symptoms are an excess of body or facial hair, acne and a reduction of hair around the scalp.


You may also notice a disruption in your ovulation pattern as well as anxiousness and moodiness. Typically, your cycle will last longer than five weeks and will be heavy and prolonged when your period does occur.

2. Examine your weight

If it is determined that you are suffering from PCOS, the first thing that you should do is examine your weight. Most women who are suffering from PCOS are in fact overweight or obese.


Losing weight is the number one thing that you can do to help fight the disorder and get your body back to functioning correctly. According to studies, 70% of PCOS sufferers who lost 5 percent of their body weight were able to get pregnant without further need for medical assistance.

3. Try Acupuncture and Cupping

If you find that weight loss is not successful, another avenue that you can explore is acupuncture. Research has shown that acupuncture is extremely effective for women whose ovulation patterns are irregular and have helped these women regulate their bodies and help them return to a normal pattern. One popular method that is similar to acupuncture is called cupping and is successful at relieving blood stagnation, which is believed by some to be a leading cause of PCOS.


4. Eat Right

Eating the right foods is also a great way to help alleviate the symptoms of PCOS and attempt to get pregnant. Most women with PCOS find that they have insulin resistance as well. By staying away from foods that contain ingredients such as glucose, fructose, honey and high fructose corn syrup, you are not consuming foods that have the ability to cause a spike in your blood sugar levels. These sugar spikes lead to the need of more insulin being produced by the body and will therefore raise your testosterone levels and alter your hormones.


5. Regular exercise

Regular exercise is also important for women suffering from PCOS. It is a natural way to keep your hormones in check and will help your body burn off the items that are causing your hormones to become unbalanced. Exercise does not need to be extremely intense, but you should aim for about 20 minutes of brisk walking following a meal. This can also help blood sugar levels from spiking and your hormones from becoming unbalanced.


6. Insulin sensitizers

You should also talk to your doctor about insulin sensitizers to see if they are an option for you. Many women who are overweight have found that taking insulin sensitizers help to regulate their insulin and help them with their fertility issues. Some doctors may be willing to prescribe these pills to an overweight woman to see if they will help with their fertility issues.


7. Fertility drugs

One final option is to talk to your doctor about fertility drugs. Most women who are suffering from PCOS find it hard to monitor their ovulation cycle and therefore are unable to get pregnant for this reason. By taking fertility drugs, women are then able to control their ovulation and have a better chance of predicting when they will ovulate.

It is important to understand that you are not the only one going through this difficult situation. With over 5 million women suffering from this disorder, there are many options available to you that have helped many others in your same shoes.


You should never give up and work hard at maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle in order to rid your body of PCOS. With some hard work, patience and a little help from your doctor, you will be able to overcome these obstacles and finally be on your way to having the baby that you have been wanting.
